Overview and History

Cenveo MM&T was formed in 1956 primarily as a sheetfed printer of advertising and promotional material. Through a strong emphasis on customer service, managerial talent, product quality, and new product introductions, the company became one of the most profitable and largest specialty printers in Canada. With current revenues of approximately 74 million, Cenveo MM&T prints labels, greeting cards, advertising support, direct mail, publications and packaging. The milestones shown below chart the company's growth since its formation.


Company founded by John McLaren, Harry Morris and Art Todd as a sheetfed printer of advertising and promotional materials. John McLaren handled sales and Harry Morris handled operations.
1958


Hallmark becomes major customer as a result of MM&T's reputation for comprehensive customer service and manufacturing flexibility. By the early 60's, greeting cards represent 25% of total company revenues.
Late 1950's


As a result of capacity constraints, MM&T moves to its current location which at the time was 40,000 square feet. The new plant was built to MM&T's specifications and was the first printing facility in Canada with humidity control and air conditioning.
1967


Southam purchases MM&T.
1976


Building expanded to 65,000 square feet to accommodate newly acquired web presses necessary for the expansion of the company's direct mail/advertising support business.
1978


Production of the board game "Trivial Pursuit" which resulted in significant sales and profit growth over a three to four year period. The building was expanded to 115,000 square feet in part to accommodate the growth of Trivial Pursuit.
Early 1980's


New label equipment was purchased to expand production, improve product quality, decrease turnaround time and lower production costs to a very competitive level.
1989


Collector Cards introduced as a new product segment. The company's expertise in "Card" productions gained from "Trivial Pursuit" cards resulted in a growth of $7 million over a two year period of business.
1990


Southam Trade Publications business attained by MM&T due to its service, quality and efficiencies.
1991


John Morris and Alan George purchase MM&T from Southam. Southam retains a 30% interest.
1993


Label business growth through a number of new customers led by Kal Kan resulting in a new state of the art Press.
1994


John Morris and Alan George purchase the balance of Southam interest.
1995


Label and Greeting Card growth results in a second state of the art press. The company's vision of the future is a Digital World, which results in the installation of a Creo System, the first commercial printer with a Direct-To-Plate process.
1996


John Morris & Alan George sell MM&T to Mail-Well. Mail-Well changes it's name to Cenveo in May 2004. John Morris retires August 2000.
1998


Acquire Ashton Potter - change name to CMM&T Packaging Company. Alan George retires September 2002 and Tony Sgro becomes President of CMM&T.
2002


May 2004, MM&T becomes Cenveo McLaren Morris & Todd.
2004

Cenveo McLaren Morris & Todd installs it's first 10 colour Flexographic machine allowing the company to better penetrate the Flexo market and better serve it's clients needs
2005

In early 2006, Cenveo McLaren Morris & Todd complete the installation of a 7 colour Full Web press.
2006

January 2009, Cenveo MM&T Packaging merges facilities with Cenveo McLaren Morris & Todd.
